Job Description: Junior Production Technician /
Technologist (Tech Level I)
Title: Junior Production Technician / Technologist
(Tech Level I)
Reports to: Production Manager
Job Purpose:
This Junior Production Technician participates in all shop
work, typically laptop and computer peripheral repair.
Repair and troubleshooting of product based on established
procedures using production equipment and tooling. Operates
within defined scope and parameters under direct supervision
of senior technical staff. Tasks
include laptop repair, taking inventory of parts and
components, and ordering any missing items. This
individual may also be executing different production
operations such as assembly, alignment, repair of component
connections, soldering electronic components, etc. He or she
then tests the finished products and in the case of a
malfunction, seeks the cause of the problem. For each
product, the technician completes a job card identifying the
components and elements used, and documenting the required
test parameters and any other specifications required by the
specific job card.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
1. In training on general Nortek procedures, workflow, and
protocol
2. Works under the supervision of and as an apprentice of
Senior/Lead Tech
3. Is examined to establish areas of interests, natural
talent and tendencies
4. Responsibility for individual product lines-production,
database use etc.
5. Work with minimal supervision, limited assistance
6. Be organized efficient and have good time management
skill
7. Proficient use of tools, efficient use of parts
8. Quality workmanship, minimal QC rejects
9. Follow and interpret basic procedures with minimal
assistance
10. Technical trustworthiness, logical decision making
11. Basic troubleshooting skills must be displayed
absolutely no issue with following verbal and/or written
instruction follows established processes and procedures (SSPs,
ECOs etc) with minimal supervision
must show the ability to learn new skills and improve in all
areas
12. Ability to use with proficiency Oscilloscopes, Frequency
counters, Function Generators, Multi Meters, microscope,
soldering irons and typical tools of the trade including
diagnostic software and utilities.
13. Responsible for submitting accurate job cards, test
reports and failure reports
14. Work to a tight production schedule
15. Comply with quality standards, safety standards and
written procedures of Nortek
16. Must be detail oriented
17. Proactive on learning new product lines or other outside
knowledge useful to their position or their career
advancement
18. Proficient hand soldering skills including removal and
replacement of SMT parts.
19. Able to consistently assemble end products where careful
attention to details is required.
20. Able to read and understand product assembly drawings
Educational and Experience:
An associate degree or equivalent from a recognized college
or university in computer engineering, electronics
technology or instrumentation technology or closely related
field
OR
Successful completion of computer manufacturers
certification training program or its equivalent in computer
or related equipment repair, maintenance, troubleshooting
and installation and at least 2 years of paid experience in
this field in a production oriented environment.

Personality: Must be trainable. Self-driven,
results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus
on high quality. Mature. Be a strong team player. Should be
reliable, tolerant, and determined be a good communicator.
Ability to work alone with minimal supervision. Concentrate
and not be easily distracted while performing tasks.
Personal Situation: Must be mature and domestically
secure. Able to work extended hours on occasions as
required. Must have clean driving record. Ability to be
bonded.
Specific Job Skills: Proficient at troubleshooting,
diagnosing and repairing laptops and other electronic
computer peripherals. Excellent attention to detail. Ability
to follow defined quality control procedures.
Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal
skills. Must fully complete and be exact in their work. Have
extensive knowledge of Nortek’s Q/A program and Standard job
procedures. Be accurate and have a
sharp eye for detail .Have a methodical and analytical
approach to work.
Computer Skills: Must be able to use basic
functionality of MS Office 2000 or later, particularly Excel
and
Word, be familiar with various OS and PC / laptop
architecture, basic Internet and email skills are an asset.
Literacy and Numeracy: Mathematical computation
ability, including ability to solve basic algebraic
equations and create equations to arrive at desired results.
Excellent written/Oral communication skills an asset. Able
to recognize patterns and trends, create appropriate
solutions.
