Education and experience
An associate degree or equivalent from a recognized college or university in
computer engineering, electronics technology or instrumentation technology or
closely related field of study.
OR
Successful completion of a computer manufacturers certification training
program or its equivalent in computer or related equipment repair, maintenance,
troubleshooting and installation and at least 2 years of paid experience in this
field in a production oriented environment.
Summary:
Purpose - To provide skilled work in the installation, repair,
operation and maintenance of various pieces of electronic storage media, devices
and systems.
Essential Functions:
Required - Essential functions required for this position include, but
are not limited to:
Knowledge Base:
- Fundamentals of computer systems and Local area networks
- Computer and related electronic equipment and peripheral devices
- Basic operating system and network operating systems such as Windows (all
versions) Linux and Unix Netware and MS-DOS
- Test equipment used for detecting malfunctions of computer and related
electronic equipment and peripherals
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, down to component level
- Principles and theories of electronic circuitry and integrated circuits and
semi-conductors
- Current computer technology and trends
- Tools, material and parts needed for the repair of computers and related
peripheral equipment
- Basic record keeping skills and ability to follow procedures
- Make regular performance checks and verify proper operation of test
equipment
- Ability to program in assembly language
- Perform related duties as assigned
Ability to:
- Read and correctly interpret manufacturer's manuals, schematics,
flowcharts and logic diagrams
- Ability to work independently and meet production requirements with limited
supervision
General Characteristics and desired traits:

- Ability to write and review technical and procedural documentation
- Adapts well to new equipment and change
- Good study skills for the study of technical specifications and related
materials in order to acquire knowledge , skills and techniques for service of
