Exabyte marketed the EXB-8900 8mm tape drive themselves and supplied a wide variety of OEMs including IBM, Sun Microsystems, Dell and many others. Some failures the customer may encounter include the following:
- Read retries
- Read write failure
- Backup error
- Slow operation
- No I/F communication
- Loud high pitch noise (noisy drum bearings)
- Blown motor
- Broken or stripped gears
- Fails POST
- Flashing LEDs or front panel lights
- Orange LED blinking and LCD displays error code (0D 00 00 or 8D 00 00)
- Orange LED on solid and LCD displays "Clean Soon"
- Excessive cleaning requests
- Cannot load tape cartridge or mount volume
- Tape or cartridge will not eject or unload
- Eating, breaking, or damaging tapes - eats tapes
- Firmware upload failure
- Torn flex cable to LCD board
- Physically damaged or broken faceplate bezel and/or LCD
