The Sony SMO-F551 and SMO-F551S optical drives are high-capacity storage devices that read and write to removable 5.25 inch cartridges containing a magneto-optic (MO) rewritable or continuous-composite write-once (CCW) disk with capacities ranging up to 5.2 GB. As such, these drives have become commonplace in installations requiring high-speed and high-capacity removable storage solutions. Sony manufactures the Sony SMO-F551(S) magneto optical drive for various OEMs including IBM as well as marketing it as its own magneto-optical solution. We can support all interfaces and configurations for this drive including SCSI-2 Fast and SCSI-2 Wide. Some failures the customer may encounter include the following:
